Joey DeFrancesco - Plays Sinatra His Way (2004)

" ... Joey DeFrancesco plays nine well-known standards on this date, some of which are more closely associated with Sinatra than others. Actually, the Sinatra connection is basically irrelevant, for DeFrancesco swings in his usual fashion. Teamed with tenor saxophonist Houston Person (who is up for the challenge), guitarist Melvin Sparks, and drummer Byron Landham, DeFrancesco rips through a very uptempo version of "Pennies from Heaven," adds soul to "Teach Me Tonight," cooks on "What Now My Love," is relatively relaxed on "Don't Worry 'Bout Me," and duets with Person on a sensitive version of "Angel Eyes." The Real Thing - New Wrapping (2003)

A quartet from Norwegia. The Real Thing were Paul Wagnberg on Hammond organ, Staffan William-Olsson on guitar, Børre Dalhaug on drums and the late Sigurd Køhn on alto saxophone. Playing mostly original material their music is a mixture of genres including jazz, blues, soul, and funk. The quartet has released eight albums with New Wrapping as their latest as a quartet. The band have been in virtual hiatus following the sudden demise of saxophonist Sigurd Køhn in December 2004.

'Papa' John DeFrancesco - Walking Uptown (2004)

"Papa John DeFrancesco plays with his quartet on this live set . Other members in the quartet are tenor-saxophonist Tim Warfield, guitarist Johnny DeFrancesco, and drummer Glenn Ferracone. Tracks include a swinging version of "Sunny," the gospel-ish "People Get Ready," the funky "160 Million Dollar Chinese Man" (from the remake of Ocean's 11), and a vamp piece ("What Happened"). Joey DeFrancesco also makes makes guest appearances on two tracks playing a trumpet and a piano."

Jimmy McGriff - In A Blue Mood (1992)

" ... Jimmy McGriff's 1991 release In A Blue Mood ranked as one of his most controversial. McGriff, certainly among the finest wailing and soul-jazz organists ever, spent as much time playing the Kurzweil 1200 synthesizer as he did the Hammond (and it was B-5 rather than the classic B-3), was joined by then-Prince saxophonist Eric Leeds, and also backed on two cuts by vocalists. It was far from late-night soul-jazz at its best; still, McGriff did play a couple of nice solos when he did turn to the organ. "Blue Juice," "The Bird," and "Charlotte" are strong McGriff vehicles; the others were done with style ..... "(AMG)

Davell Crawford - The B-3 and Me (1998)

"Davell Crawford has been playing piano since he was seven and first toured Europe in his early teens. and he was only 21 when he played the organ exclusively on The B-3 and Me. This soul-jazz/hard bop CD showed the New Orleans native to have a Smith-based approach to the instrument, and there isn't much to set B-3 apart from the many similar organ-combo recordings that had come out 30 and 35 years earlier. But while Crawford (whose competent backing includes tenor saxman Clarence Johnson III and drummer Shannon Powell) won't win many awards for innovation, he's likable and consistently swinging ..." Ondrej Pivec - Overseason

This recording was made in New York when organist Ondrej Pivec and drummer Tomas Hobzek visited the US in the summer of 2007. Initially the visit was only for some orientation, to meet people, make some contacts, play a little and be part of the jazz metropolis of the world. The fact that they returned with a complete album was primarily the result of a number of fortunate coincidences: listening to Ondrej Pivec's debut album 'Never Enough' aroused the interest of guitarist Jake Langley, and Pivec’s short performance with guitarist Peter Bernstein later opened the doors for him to a recording studio on Long Island. Hobzek’s participation in a jam session brought in saxophonist Joel Frahm.The session features four new compositions by Pivec, one by Hobzek and one by Langley and two standards round out the repertoire. The material was prepared in one week and the album recorded in one day. The sound of the album is bursting with the spontaneity with which the album came together “unplanned,” as well as the drive that Pivec and Hobzek got out of working with musicians who are already well-established in the New York jazz scene.

Mel Davis - Revealed (2005)

Melvin Davis has understood the power of his hands to transport the sound of instruments from his imagination to a concert hall or nightclub dating back to his childhood. He played his first piano recital at 9, and at 15, when cats his age were learning how to charm young ladies, Davis was sneaking into local night clubs, hoping to charm the Hammond B3.
But 29 years ago, Davis lost the ability to play with his hands. A freak accident ripped a finger from his left hand, which was also split diagonally. He needed eight painful years and seven grueling operations to rehabilitate that hand and those fingers before he could play again. Even his brain underwent reconstruction. It had to adjust to Davis now playing bass with his left, chords and melodies with his right; the opposite way he learned and opposite the way most musicians play. 'Revealed' is his third release as a leader ; guitarist Ronny Jordan who produced the album also contributed in the session; other personnel are : Mark Bowers (guitar); Bruce Williams (saxophone); Freddie Hendrix (trumpet, flugelhorn); Abe Fogle (drums); DJ AP (turntables).
