Julien Lourau

I. The Rise (2002)

French jazz saxophonist Julien Lourau (Born 1970) never wanted to freeze in one aesthetic and always keeping abreast to contemporary currents. To date he has released eight albums and each reflects his thirsts for something new as well as his takes on contemporary events. Gambit, his fourth release, is an excursion to electronic territories with among other, flautist Malik Mezzadri and DJ Shalom. In the follow up album The Rise’ (2002) his composition is more classical and elaborated which largely influenced by his trips to Latin America and his numerous encounters. Try to listen to his twin albums Fire and Forget (2005) which he takes on the event in Iraq, more specifically to the tactic being deployed by the British troop in the war in Iraq. Lourau made his mark in the jazz scene since the early 90s when he won the first soloist prize in La Défense and he has since lead a productive and successful career. He's someone to watch in the years to come.
