Tracks: VBR
1. Jimmy McGriff - All About My Girl (3:57) 2. "Big" John Patton - The Turnaround (6:46) 3. Jimmy Smith - Back At The Chicken Shack (8:05) 4. Baby Face Willette - Work Song (4:54) 5. Brother Jack McDuff - Hunk O' Funk (6:02) 6. Larry Young - Plaza De Toros (9:36)
I have all tracks already, and a few of them are real classics:
1) The absolutely blinding swing in McGriff's 'All about my girl'. If you are wondering what swing really is, check this one out. (just remember to think about something else during the guitar solo, as that solo is not at all up to par with the rest of the song)
2) 'Back at the chicken shack' by the Incredible, one and only J.O.S. was one of those few tunes that became so important! Laid-back with deep groove, well, at that time in 1960 I don't know if the term was even invented yet: Soul jazz.
If I had choosed I would have done two subsitutions though :-) I would have choosen 'The Silver Meter' as Patton's song, and 'Goin' Down' as Willette's song. But probably 'Goin' Down' was considered too blue for this collection.
