Helen Sung - Helenistique (2005)

This is the sophomore effort from jazz pianist Helen Sung. In this release she works with drummer Lewis Nash and bassist Derrick Hodge, a formation that prove to be very enjoyable to listen to; even the trio seemed to be enjoying themselves in playing the music. They cover some jazz standards from James P. Johnson,Thelonious Monk, Joe henderson as well as Duke ellington. Sung in particular plays the piano with confidence and authority injecting her own personality into some of the time-tested compositions such as Duke Ellington's "Cottontail", Thelonious Monk's "Bye Ya", Rodgers" Hart's "Lover" and several others.
