This is a great jazz organ record! It's like traveling in a time machine back to, say, 1965, and that's not a bad thing at all. Quite the opposite! Mel Rhyne has kept in shape, thanks to smoking? ;-) since playing with Wes Montgomery. The sound engineer has also managed to capture the tonewheel Hammond well, with it's little bit of tube overdrive sound.

I have this record since before, but with defects, so it's great to find it here. Thanks!

My favourite track is without further hesitation the beautiful 'Jeannine'. A great performance from all, with Peter Bernstein sounding a bit like Grant Green and performing a great guitar solo. Kenny Washington is the one who really propels the tune with great drumming.

Hi beequeen

You post really great jazz organ albums, so I have decided to be rude enough to ask :-)

Do you happen to have

Melvin Rhyne - Classmasters
(Criss Cross Jazz 1183 CD)

and/or

Melvin Rhyne - Front And Center
(Criss Cross Jazz 1290 CD)

If you have them and would like to share them it would be great and I would be thankful.

Thanks for running this blog, and,
Keep it up!
