Peter Epstein/Brad Shepik/Matt Kilmer - Lingua Franca (2005)
A terific album from 2005. It was recorded live with no overdubs nor anything else by alto/soprano saxophonist Peter Epstein, guitarist Brad Shepik and percussionist Matt Kilmer. Here's a review by Mr. Scott Yanow:
" ... This unusual trio, comprised of altoist Peter Epstein (occasionally doubling on soprano), guitarist Brad Shepik, and percussionist Matt Kilmer, works quite well, sounding very complete. Epstein is generally melodic, Shepik's versatility and wide range of sounds are major assets, and Kilmer keeps the backgrounds colorful. Some of the playing hints at world music and one number has a reggae rhythm, but the music overall is modern post-bop jazz, with each of the musicians being of equal importance. There are no dull or predictable moments along the way and this sparse format brings out the best in all three players ..."

Dave Stryker - Blue to the Bone III (2002)
" ... Guitarist Dave Stryker has always been the featured sideman for such artists as Stanley Turrentine, Jack McDuff, and Kevin Mahogany. Grew up in Omaha, Nebraska, moved to New York City in 1980, and joined organist Jack McDuff’s group, travelling all over the U.S. for two years (1984-85). From 1986 to 1995, and 1998-2000 Stryker played with tenor saxophonist Stanley Turrentine, performing at all the major festivals, concert halls, and clubs throughout the world. To date he has 21 albums as a leader. His Blue to the Bone Band, ongoing since 1996, features three other rhythm players and four horns. Compared to his other projects, the band was established to showcase his blues side and it covers the jazzier realm of the blues. "

Joey DeFrancesco - Plays Sinatra His Way (2004)
" ... Joey DeFrancesco plays nine well-known standards on this date, some of which are more closely associated with Sinatra than others. Actually, the Sinatra connection is basically irrelevant, for DeFrancesco swings in his usual fashion. Teamed with tenor saxophonist Houston Person (who is up for the challenge), guitarist Melvin Sparks, and drummer Byron Landham, DeFrancesco rips through a very uptempo version of "Pennies from Heaven," adds soul to "Teach Me Tonight," cooks on "What Now My Love," is relatively relaxed on "Don't Worry 'Bout Me," and duets with Person on a sensitive version of "Angel Eyes." Will Calhoun - Native Lands (2005)
Better known as the drummer for Living Colour, Will Calhoun's solo projects differ significantly from his work with the hard rocking band; here exploring on world beats and jazz, he shows his jazz chops playing with some musicians from various musical styles that include Pharoah Sanders, Wallace Roney, Stanley Jordan,Marcus Miller, Nana Vasconcelos, Mos Def, Orrin Evans, John Benitez, and Kevin Eubanks. Pharoah Sanders appears in five tracks (1,2,3,4 and 7) and in four of them trumpeter Wallace Roney also joins in.

The Real Thing - New Wrapping (2003)
A quartet from Norwegia. The Real Thing were Paul Wagnberg on Hammond organ, Staffan William-Olsson on guitar, Børre Dalhaug on drums and the late Sigurd Køhn on alto saxophone. Playing mostly original material their music is a mixture of genres including jazz, blues, soul, and funk. The quartet has released eight albums with New Wrapping as their latest as a quartet. The band have been in virtual hiatus following the sudden demise of saxophonist Sigurd Køhn in December 2004.

Ingrid Jensen - Higher Grounds (1999)
One of the most-gifted hard bop trumpeters of her generation, Ingrid Jensen was born in Vancouver, British Columbia, in 1967. After attending the Berklee College of Music in Boston, she toured Europe with the Vienna Art Orchestra's production Fe and Males; following the completion of the tour, she remained abroad, teaching jazz trumpet and becoming, at age 25, the youngest professor at Austria's Bruckner Conservatory. Jensen also toured with Lionel Hampton & His Golden Men of Jazz before returning to the U.S. in 1994, joining the big band DIVA; that same year, she also recorded her debut LP, the Enja label release Vernal Fields. An acolyte of Miles Davis, Art Farmer, and Woody Shaw, her second album, Here on Earth, appeared in 1997 and was followed two years later by Higher Grounds which was her third record with the Enja label.(Jason Ankeny, All Music Guide)

'Papa' John DeFrancesco - Walking Uptown (2004)
"Papa John DeFrancesco plays with his quartet on this live set . Other members in the quartet are tenor-saxophonist Tim Warfield, guitarist Johnny DeFrancesco, and drummer Glenn Ferracone. Tracks include a swinging version of "Sunny," the gospel-ish "People Get Ready," the funky "160 Million Dollar Chinese Man" (from the remake of Ocean's 11), and a vamp piece ("What Happened"). Joey DeFrancesco also makes makes guest appearances on two tracks playing a trumpet and a piano."

Sharel Cassity - Just For You (2008)
The debut album from Jazz saxophonist Sharel Cassity. Though the album cover hints some smooth/pop oriented music, make no mistake Sharel delivers a mainstream jazz with the chops anybody with the right ears will admire. She released her second effort 'Relentless' last September on Legacy records.
