Eric Alexander

I. Eric Alexander - Nightlife In Tokyo (2003)

Same as Donny McCaslin, Eric Alexander delivers a muscular tenor sound. Nightlife in Tokyo released in 2003 featured Alexander on tenor sax and Harold Mabern on piano, Ron Carter on bass, and Joe Farnsworth on drums. The album is post-bop, modern but with a classic sound.

Oregon - Prime (2005)

Photobucket

For over three decades, the group Oregon has been creating some of the most prolific instrumental music. Founders Ralph Towner, Glen Moore, Paul McCandless and the late Collin Walcott pioneered a remarkably fresh sound, blending classical, jazz and world music.

Recorded in Oslo in April of 2005, "Prime" is like the band -- a mix of different ideas.Features the three surviving original members (Ralph Towner on guitar and keyboards, bassist Glen Moore, and Paul McCandless, who switches between soprano, English horn, sopranino, oboe and bass clarinet) with either Arto Tuncboyaciyan or Mark Walker on percussion.

Vince Seneri - Street Talk (2005)

Photobucket

Vince Seneri is one of those rare organ players that becomes one with his complex and bulky instrument - The Hammond B3 organ. Many of the great names of the Hammond B-3 simply use the upper keyboards, ignoring the rack of pedals that create the true low register. So much for that and his techniques per se may be at par with the likes of Joey DeFrancisco, Rhoda Scott, Groove Holmes, Jack McDuff and his first major influence, Jimmy Smith, masters of the B-3 that use all the Hammond’s features to the fullest.

I. Bill Heid - Bop Rascal (1996)

Path to become world renowned jazz musician is not necessarily through signing with major labels or high playing times on the radios; this applies to Bill Heid. While he may be well known in the U.S , he's virtually unheard of outside until he was chosen by the U.S State department as the U.S Jazz ambassador for the world and that's exactly how I discovered his music and, of course, his Hammond organ sound. I saw his performance as a trio with Patrick O'Leary ( Bass), and Michael Petrosino (Drummer). He's a natural musician who was inspired to play jazz and blues by listening to the radio, he played in both piano and organ groups and his organ playing is influenced by the like of Jimmy Smith Don Patterson, Jack McDuff, Jimmy McGriff , and Dr. Lonnie Smith. He has recorded several albums under Black Magic, Fedora, and Savant labels and these are his second (Bop Rascal) and third (Wet Streets).

Released in 2004 "Sentimental Journey" is an anthology and a retrospective compilation of Ben Sidran's works up to "Nick's Bump" album that was released earlier in that same year. This 2 Cds release tastefully separates the compilation into Disc 1 as Jazz side and Disc 2 as Blues side.

Steve Nelson - Sound Effect (2007)

Photobucket

Steve Nelson has been quite visible as the vibraphonist in Dave Holland's Quintet and Big Band since the mid-'90s, yet has had surprisingly few opportunities to record as a leader. Having paid his dues as a sideman going back to the 1970s and several high quality though not too succesful releases, this one (Sound Effect) finally get him to move center-stage for good. He teamed up with such veterans as Mulgrew Miller on piano, Peter Washington on bass, and Lewis Nash on drums! give it a try if you like jazz vibraphone/piano quartets or just enjoy good jazz played by the masters.

Tony Monaco - East To West (2006)

Photobucket

Saw his performance with Harvey Mason and Pat Martino and very much impressed with his mastery of the Hammond organ. Attractive and so immersed. Flanked by guitarist Bruce Forman (known for his work on the soundtrack of Clint Eastwood’s Million Dollar Baby), drummer Adam Nussbaum, and Byron Rooker on Saxophone, this is his sixth recordings and may well be his finest yet.

Jake Langley - Diggin' In (2004)

Photobucket

Guitarist Jake Langley is not just another Mr. Fast Fingers . Diggin’ In, Langley’s third CD, teams the hard-swinging guitarist with veteran drummer Terry Clarke and Joey DeFrancesco’s Hammond B3 organ genius. Steeped in the hard-bop, organ-trio tradition, this release offers plenty of grooves and guitar improvisation and shows why Mr. Langley should be considered as one of a pre-eminent hard bop guitarist such as Wes Montgomery, Kenny Burrell, George Benson, and Russell Malone.
